Xochimilco Mexican Food Medellin | Colombia Backpacking

Carrera 36 #8A-135, El Poblado, Medellin

Xochimilco is a new spot in Medellin's El Poblado neighborhood for Mexican food. It's on the corner of Carrera 36 and Calle 10, right next to Dominos, and just steps from Parque Lleras. This is a great spot to sstop in for lunch and grab an almuerzo ejecutivo (complete lunch). On the day that I went I started with a tortilla soup, followed by a plato fuerte of chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes and an excellent salad of tomato, lettuce, and avocado.

The menu offers up traditional Mexican food, such as tacos, flautas, quesadillas, and burros. They also offer tortugas, large stuffed sandwiches. Colombian beer is available for $4.000, while imported beer, mostly Mexican, is $8.000 a piece. Prices are shockingly high. Indeed, you can get far cheaper Mexican food in Mexico and the United States. I was particularly shocked at how expensive the cocktails were: $12.000 to $15.000 a piece.

All in all, this isn't a bad place to swing by and grab some Mexican food. But with those prices, make sure you're getting something you will really enjoy. In El Poblado, unfortunately, it is increasingly more difficult to grab a high-quality meal, at a good price.
