Medellin's Casa Kiwi is one of Medellin's largest hostels, and has recently undergone extensive renovations. Located just steps from Parque Lleras and all the nightlife and entertainment attractions of El Poblado, it's a popular backpacker spot. The best features of Casa Kiwi include a rooftop dipping pool, a chic bar area with a nice pool table, and a wooden deck area with barbecue grill.

The rooms have comfortable beds and nice furniture, and the hostel is decked out in a bamboo theme with plenty of delightful touches like plants and decorative pools and fountains throughout. The staff is friendly and knowledgable about the surrounding area. Head out to the front deck for a chill spot to relax, or kick back in one of the upstairs hammocks. And of course, if it gets too hot, take a quick dip in the pool.

Casa Kiwi is interesting in that it is built on five floors and has numerous common areas with spectacular views of the surrounding city. Dorm beds start at $20.000 a night, while private rooms are $40.000 with shared bathroom and $60.000 with private bathroom. These are typical Medellin hostal prices.

Casa Kiwi, along with many Medellin hostals, does attract a party crowd, but with so much space available, ask to be put in a quieter area if you want a little more tranquility. All in all, Casa Kiwi is a tremendous asset to Medellin, and comes highly recommended by Colombia Backpacking!
